If you activate the hammer, the feed hose will as a rule give a kick. Larger Volvo machines always had the hammer feed down the cabin side of the machine.

When you say it is slow have you timed the cylinder with full engine speed?
Arm in cylinder out often has the possibility to increase the flow many machines have some form of restriction...
