Default Mid size van opinions?

Hi All
Been thinking of a slightly smaller van! Currently got a transit lwb mid roof, thinking of down sizing it to something like a transit custom or transporter etc!

What's people got and what's your opinions for vans of this size!

My biggest thought is MPG! Id like something real easy on juice!

Interested to hear peoples thoughts!

Aiden

I've got a Transporter kombi. 140 DSG. It's my only vehicle and use it for everything. It's my second transporter and I've just ordered another one. Haven't had any major problems, strut top bearings under warranty, that's all.

Used to drive transits when I was working for my dad, and the transporter is much more car like, nicer to drive.

My average MPG is 28.9 over the last 2 years, but van loaded with tools is 2.4ton and about half of the time I'm towing a 10ft Ifor Willian's tipper trailer, 1.1ton empty.
Best tank 38mpg
Worst 23mpg. (Very heavy trailer that week!)

I also live in the highlands, no motorway cruising and lots of hills, I've spoken to people who have he same van elsewhere in the country and get much better mpg, mid thirties without trying too hard.

Thanks lads for the replies. Sorry only getting around to replying myself as it's been a bit hectic

Had a good look around the transit custom at scotplant last week and I'm leaning towards them at the minute. Going to try and get a test drive in one soon, or even hire one for a week or so.
They seem to be holding there money at the minute second hand , but there's some attractive finance offers on new ones too.... not sure if I want to go that road though.

Anyone else got the transit custom.... and what do you think.?

Aiden

I like the custom although seems a little small up front compared to the mk6/7
Mate jas an 09 120 transporter and it is bad on fuel it's very low 20's never loaded with much weight he mostly carries a few cordless hand tools and a few screw tubs so barely 100kg in the back

cant beat the transit as an all rounder, simple, easy to fix, lots of parts, rarely go wrong, will work every day, and good residual value. ive had most make of vans, always swear im going back to transit.. finally have, wouldnt have anything else

Do like the look of Liam's new Connect. Have no experience of them as didn't like the style of the older connects,

Ollie loves his Transit and have to admit its a lovely ride, looks smart and has quality finish.

Myself a bigger van just means I'll horde more shite so will probably stay with a Caddy but will look at the connect come change time.
