Default BTD-8 serial number breaks

Does anyone know at what where the serial number break is that separates the BTD-8 (80) & 81 series crawlers? I have a serial number list for the BTD-8 beginning at #501 (1960) The later TD-8 (82) begins at #3794 (1966)
I know that the TD-8 (82) had significant changes to the earlier BTD-8 crawlers, what were the most obvious changes between the 80 & 81 series crawlers?

Regards from OzzInter in Australia

Hi Ozz, If my memory is not playing tricks on me I think the main difference between the 80 and 81 series machines was the final drives.
The 80 series had a bull gear and pinion set up while the 81s had a planetary system which was also used on the 82s.
Again if my memory is correct I think when the 81 series was introduced the air cleaners were changed from oil bath type to dry, can't think of anything else at the moment but others may be along with a better memory.

We have a BTD8-80 with a smashed final drive housing. Bought a BTD8-81 for parts and found them different . This is what we finally worked out . The 80 series used BTD6 final drives . The 81 series have upgraded final drives with wider bullgears . I believe the planetary system was then used on the 82 series

501-603-1960 604-1082-1961 1083-1700-1962 1701-2320-1963 2321-2862-1964 2863-3636-1965 3637-3793-1966
3794-4126-1966 becomes TD8 I guess this info you have cant say where the break happened only that BTD was built in England TDs America or some where
