A man after my own hart,
All done by hand as well, non of that template stuff then.

We I was 18/19 I done shed loads of house signs all by hand, when I worked at the wood crafts in Jersey, that and loads of turning on the lathe.

And it's not as easy as it looks when your routing out letters in a piece of English Oak or Ash, when the cutter wants to follow the grain.

The one I did was with the chainsaw. Carve name, spray with paint, leave to dry and run the back of chainsaw across the top removing excess paint.
The router way was same but used belt sander to tidy up.
This sign was in memory of friends dog who passed

I have never had anything to do with chainsaws, never really needed one,
But fair play to you if you can use it to carve like that.

I can do most things with a piece of wood or even metal, but chain saws are not my thing.
