JCB 8060, but I stuck it on the Volvo BL71 as well, just to discount the machine as being the problem.

So;I stripped the thing down and discovered the problem.

The lower cylinder liner has three ports that match those in the exterior valve block, to allow oil to flow. The liner is held in position by two steel dowels that lock it into the chuck. These dowels had sheared, allowing the cylinder liner to rotate in the barrel and block the oil ports.

The unfortunate bit was that I couldnít see anything wrong with the seals, so didnít bother replacing any: of course it wouldnít hold gas when I got it back together. Anyway, after treating the thing to a new set of seals at £280 ( hell there must be some serious markup on seals) all seems well.
