great update Dave ..... love the Bandicoot wind up .... bit like the killer Koalas you get sometimes

Skip looks the biz and as said .... nice and versatile

the PTO set up also looks like a real useful bit of gear and'd give you a lot of extra att.s available

More beach pictures soon as spring warms up
Back to machinery however. Took a trip south to Lake Goldsmith in Victoria. More info on that later. On the way I dropped in at an old friend who manages a 5000 acre cropping property and checked out some of his machinery. First was the grain elevator he built to move grain into farm silos. It has a high speed hydraulically powered belt instead of an auger for higher performance and is built on a truck chassis of which the pto drives the hydraulic pump. A fantastic bit of fabrication by a very smart guy.

So is his $250,000 Dutch spray rig

Than off to Lake Goldsmith to see this at work

More on Lake Goldsmith in the next post.

As you may have gathered Lake Goldsmith is about machinery, specifically old to very old machinery including steam powered machinery. And some of it it is very very large

First couple of pics is of a beautifully restored Ruston Hornsby stationary engine. Now this is real machinery porn. It was running so smoothly and quietly and ... Well the pictures say more than I can.

Big stuff now with a massive steam powered shovel operating on site!

Lake Goldsmith is a permanent site for old machinery based near Ballarat in the Victorian countryside. Enthusiasts have their own sheds for restoring and displaying machinery and more. There are many working displays such as earthmoving, agricultural machinery, sawmilling, generators, pumps and more. It's fantastic place which has two major open day events every year. It takes more than a day to see it all and it's virtually all operating culminating each day with a parade of traction engines, old tractors and even old bicycles around the oval. Truly an awe inspiring place for anyone who appreciates machinery.

Hmm dunno what went wrong with the pics in the previous post. Let me know if you can't see them when you click on the links. Maybe the Druid will fix it if he comes back.
Anyway here's some more porn. More of the steam shovel...

Oh and what's this, another working steam shovel on rails!

I don't think there are any working versions of these shovels anywhere else in the world. They had these monsters operating on site for the whole weekend. Truly amazing.

sorry Dave .... appears to be an upload issue .... f**k knows what though, 'cos they have an Att. no. ... just no file to show ?????
Could edit the post in ''advanced'', reload the images and replace the files that are showing ... or they may even be lurking in the Att.s manager??

That is one hell of an elevator in the first post .... and some very expensive, shiny, new toys.

there's a museum up north (it may be the Beamish museum??) that has an old steam shovel, which i believe is a Ruston, but not as big as that one of yours .... it's decades since I saw it last
