well they're back in the driving seat for another 3 years BTLs

http://www.theconstructionindex.co.u...favour-of-levy

http://www.theconstructionindex.co.u...acks-citb-levy

BUT ..... on the other side of the coin ......

" While the CITB looks to have gathered enough support from other industry trade associations to secure renewal of its mandate for an industry training levy, the Home Builders Federation (HBF) has declared ‘no confidence’ in the current set-up.

The HBF reports that 89% of its members voted against CITB continuing as the lead body for construction training.
"

http://www.theconstructionindex.co.u...b-levy-renewal

" Members of the Scottish Building Federation and the Scottish Decorators’ Federation have both voted overwhelmingly to reject the Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) training levy proposals. "

http://www.theconstructionindex.co.u...y-against-citb

so ...... who knows? It'll probably get fiddled/massaged, whatever the result, in favour of them continuing

and you thought they were bad before

" The next chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is to be a Department for Education insider rather than a senior figure from within the construction industry "

Well, hopefully a fresh pair of eyes might make a change??,but as it stands at the moment, the industry is in a sorry state of affairs.

Well you'd like to hope so ....... but just look at the state of the education system in the UK...... and it doesn't bode well

always been the same though Rory .... it's more crowd control than education

if you got 10% that were interested, you still had to deal with the other 90% whilst trying to give the 10% some input.

by the time i finished my 3 yr teacher training course in the 70s, I'd spent the best part of one in three of those years in schools..... and was planning on going back into industry -
"**** that for a game of soldiers" ....
and many more of my year felt the same. No plans to further their teaching career

I got begged to take a job in my local comp, where I'd actually been to school 4 + years earlier, by the Head of the design dept., on a full time 'supply' basis for a year, to cover a sick colleague, with his post becoming a permanent position after the 12 months needed to 'invalid him out'. They knew me and I'd 'cut it'.

supply was double bubble, but no holiday pay and made it attractive enough to compete with what i could've been on back in fabbing, so took it.

this was the biggest comp. in Wales, at the time, 1,996 kids
the guy I was covering for was a JP and spent maybe 6-8 hrs a week in school, with some poor sods having to cover for him when absent.
Therefore he didn't give a toss what classes he had.
the place was big enough to have it's own 'remedial' stream' - per year.
guess what I ended up with.
the highlight of my week was a Wednesday morning, with two 'normal' first year classes of an hour each !!

the rest of the week was "crowd control" interspersed with as much input as I could give, to the odd one or two, who had a genuine interest.
Many of these odd ones and twos, have become good friends, over the last 35+ years and established them selves in their own right.

I used to take a 54 seater, packed to the gunwales to a local tech on a Friday afternoon 'release', for the 'practical courses' the school couldn't offer.
Jesus .... was like the Alamo some days .... but we eventually reached an understanding .... piss me off and you walked ... where-ever we were - they were off.
didn't take long to establish a behaved ride, to/from the tech.
I take my hat off to the guys trying to 'teach' this pack of wild animals on a Friday afternoon, something ... anything .... but something of benefit.
Admittedly there was three of 'em to a class, to maintain some level of 'crowd control and the odd few benefited

It's no wonder "technical colleges aren't doing too well atm" ... the way discipline has gone in the last 35 years ..... what a ****ing nightmare !!!!

I was able to teach wood / metal / tech drg / ceramics / art & pottery / history & development of design / art history .... basically everything encompassed by today's design and resistant materials ..... and a lot more!!

It was crowd control, most of the time, whilst trying to give the odd few that wanted it, a leg up

I managed it for a lot of 'em.

The other 90+% were canon fodder !!!!
this may be controversial, but ...........stupidity breeds stupidity ... unless you can get to 'em real early ..... and there's virtually no chance of that !!!
