No my locating lug holes are actually in the side of the cap whereas your ones in the pictures are in the actual end, I have this curved spanner that has a lug in the end which locates in the hole, the spanner is itself is curved so it fits around the end of the cap on the cylinder.

Ah right ... pinned C spanner .... worth putting a small G clamp or similar on it to keep it well and truly located in the pin hole to avoid damaging the hole if it tries to escape ...... plenty of heat is usually the only way they'll let go.

Used to do dozens of rams for a local hydraulics place, when I had my workshop and usually didn't get to see them until they were completely butchered, either by their customers' failures, or them
60" Stilsons worked wonders with enough heat on external caps ... the internal ones (like in my pix) were a bigger PITA

Well i can'tbelieve my luck i sprayed plus gas around the end cap last night, came back to it this evening and with the correct tool and 6 ft of scaffold bar it cracked open straight away no force required, What a result, i got the rod out which must weigh about 50kg, The actual cylinder is still on the machine so i will probably remove it tomorrow prior the refitting the cylinder rod. Pics to follow.

So more snow today and blowing a bloody gale through our place today, As i got the ram rod out yesterday evening leving the cylinder in situ, Today i re-sealed the ram and in the snow managed to refit it and get everything done back up and i now have a machine with no leaks i can"t quite believe how easy the job went, if only they all went that way.
