it's a long way from being a ''sander'' Gra ..... it's a grinder with a very big 'G' ... massive material removal rates ....
multiple expletives required to describe just how good they are

Hugh Bushnell from Selkent spent months trying to flog me one, many years ago.
he turned up at my workshop one day with one in the boot of his Merc.
I spent about 30-40 seconds trying it .... and ordered two ...

well actually a second one .... he weren't having that one back to go home with

whilst one was 1/2 worn second had a new belt ... when the new one got to half , t'other was ready for a new one ...... etc., etc. .... worked out well.
belt'd average 3-4 months hard use, not dear and pretty tough lil' sods.
never snapped one in a lot of years use.
the secret to not wrecking them is the soft serrated rubber front wheel .... allows enough flexibility not the tear the belts.

Someone on here has one IIRC .... might be James .. he'll tell you how ****ing good they really are!!!

when you've used one Chris ..... you think of ways to use it, rather than a hand held 5 or 9" ... the ease of material removal is phenomenal ..

Bloody good for sharpening three an' a half inch drills too

American outfit called Flex used to do a hand-held 2" version ... failed to find anyone selling them in the UK and tried to import a couple from Europe.
they unfortunately stopped selling into the Eu, before I could get my hands on a few.
No longer make a dedicated unit for flat sheet work, with the serated rubber wheel .. pipe work only ... and last time I looked were over 600 quid each

this is a combination of the pipe and flat panel work design ... no flat platten to support the belt

well it arrived this morning ...... much to my surprise
tracking said it was still in their Portsmouth hub???

Driver was very lucky to catch us here ....

Pam's B/day today and an easy day, with lunch out was on the cards

so here is where it's stayed all day !!

Told Pam that her daughter was doing her a birthday meal, this evening so ... go easy lunchtime

went to her favorite 'scoffery', which does lots of gluten free choices ...
including a serious selection of deserts .. GF ones !!
this was new on the menu

said if she was going to eat that amount of cream .... she might as well get down on the floor and let me give her gall bladder a good kicking now ...
might not hurt quite so much later ..... LOL ... or at least not appear to !!

and that's not a trick of the camera's lens ..... it was THAT big
....... like a rabbit in the headlights

"it's a tough job, but someone had to do it" ..... sure as hell wasn't going to be me .... tha's a Druid goes to hospital jobbie!!

remarkably ..... after yet another meal at 7.30 this evening .... she's fine
Pam did however admit this evening, that she did not think she was going to see off lunch time's desert !!!!

more on the belt grinder tomorrow ... day to myself .. sort of !!

I have a Makita belt sander that I sit in the vice, to turn it into a tool grinder. Belts seem to be much better than wheels at dissipating heat, but still require a gentle touch with woodworking chisels.

What’s your favourite abrasive medium and grit size Gra?
