because you sway around like a duck on water.but there not that bad.you cant spot turn but you can as i say pick it up and throw it around without steering it as for the speed the 170 does 24mph its a bit to fast. there not that hard to drive but its what you know.icant (operate)a dozer but ican (drive) one pushing a tip. out every one to here own

Thanks RD, i must keep a look out for the chance to get a go on one, i take it they have a suspension system then? making them sway under weight? must make it a real skill to be accurate when you need millimeters of movement or do they have feet?

My first excavator i operated was a hymac rubber duck .It had short stabilizer legs on the rear and rams that locked the front axle and stopped it rocking It was fairly stable .No springs on the rear and a centre pivoting axle like a tractor on the front .Few and far between ,the old hymacs these days ,though there has been a couple [tracked ones ] pop up on ebay lately . ian .

i did once drive a hymac duck belonged to fox bros from blackpool about 15 yrs ago it was a 141 i think yellow and red with black arm.good digger but to travel you had a lever to your right to travel frw and rev no pedal and also did once drive a atlas duck that built the pyramids you had to get out of the cab to put the axle locks on and off how times have changed
