Default The operator in the sky

Further to previous posts, it's been confirmed Komatsu's 'intelligent' new excavator will go into production in the UK later in the year. "The technology may be frightening but it's the future," the company says.

There's a dire shortage of operators. We have had troubles keeping seats filled.
I have heard of sites where machines and dumptrucks have sat idle for up to two weeks due to lack of operators.

When they are talking of over 300+ dump trucks on HS2. Then I think I'll be buying myself a dump truck and going on hire...!!

Operator shortage is 100% happening, I've had 2 calls this week to go and work for others.

Duck at 18hr and the nights at 25.

20 tonner at 15hr.

When was the last time you worked with a young operator or heard someone say this Industry had a great structured route into employment that didn't look like a job creating cartel that probably wouldn't know one end of a machine from another?

Get a scheme going that lets lads be trained on site under trained operators supervision, instead of a huge wad of cash for a blue card that basically guarantees nobody wants you!

Eddie.

Eddie.
Coudn't agree more Eddie. I train new lads every year, have three on this year all doing well. Have had 3 others turn up during the summer that told me they were operators ...... proper idiots. When offered training and help they weren't interested. When one was offered the start on an ADT he walked off...... same lad that was desparate for work and has a year old baby and its mother to support ........ dos not compute with me .....

Why it looks from my point of view like there is no shortage is every time I go to a job the builder's son is always on the digger. There seems to be a queue of kids lined up to go on the machines almost everywhere I go.

Whether they drive them well or not, or have a ticket of whatever colour is another subject, or is it?
