It never makes sense, the hirers will drop you for two or three quid an hour.... 20-30 Quid a day thats all !! Well i think we both know that can be saved in one hour by a good operator in many ways.
D6R LGP 41 from us 62 with fuel. Many customers won't supply fuel....it costs them dearly We have to price maximum fuel usage...300 + a day for a D6R, it may only use 240 litres for weeks on end, they loose a lot like this.
I will negotiate the rate slightly when circumstances prove a steady job.

We are seeing this sort of thing more and more. We don't get involved on these multi-million pound jobs (as contractors, not running the job !!) as for us they never seem to be any better than our own work.
We get companies who have undercut us, especially in the last 2-3 years.
We refuse to drop our rates, infact we have put ours up. What this has done has strengthened our case that "You get what you pay for" as there have now been a few of the jobs in which we were under-cut (significantly) where the work was rushed, blundered over and left in a less than tidy condition.
Also, once in, these 'cheaper' firms then add on extra's which often total more than the highest quote.

As for the story in the OP, it makes you wonder what sort of people are awarding these contracts because to be a bit under the rest of the tenders is one thing - to be around half the price must surely ring alarm bells with anyone posessing half a brain.

Job in Camborne is probably the new industrial estate in Tolvadon. Just next to the A30 they've been marking it out for the last couple of weeks.
