If you were supplying fuel, it would be extra on the rate plus 20% vat, the vat on the fuel is 5%, so you'd still be better off on the flat rate.

VAT on Gas Oil is only 5% for deliveries of less than 2300 litres (500 gals).
Anything over that is full 20% - doubt 500 gal.s at a time would last Rob long!!

Didn't know that, I've never bought more than 1200 liters.

Used to be RDCO registered (HMRC's Registered Dealer in Controlled Oils) and sold massive amounts of red - ('til the RDCO came into effect), that slowed it up.
Also used to get through a fair drop in a week, running 5 mobile cranes - thirsty beasts and our FLTs, but never bought it in more than 500 gallon deliveries - sometimes three or four a week, when busy.
Didn't make any odds to me as I could claim it back, but pushed the retail price up, so just did it that way!! Very few places 'round me sold it 'from the pump' and had loads of small plant guys in daily.
