I despair.......you have a great misconception of me............i was JCB mad from being young when a brand new Sitemaster Turbo + turned up ath the farm to level some land....it set the seed, which resulted in me spannering 12 hour days and then doing an 8 hour night shift on a shovel.....i did this for 6 months(don t ask me how)and it bought me my first machine....a 3 year old 1995 Jubilee............it was the finest machine i ve ever driven...it was a joy to drive, sounded great and had done towards 8000 hours when i sold her(trouble free)....this resulted in a 2001 contractor and then a 2003 contractor. The latter was a pile of c**p by comparisson and resulted in the first Volvo..the rest as we say....is history.i guess its a bit like the young boy racer, saving for an Escort and then discovering Audi.I bash JCB in a vain attempt to encourage them to build machines like the the P8 and 12...........they were true world beaters.

I'm no expert with back hoes as the only time I ever drove one was in 1998 from the yard I worked at to site where on ariving I swaped over on to a Komatsu d41s.The back hoe was a jcb 3cx with a manual gear stick with forward reverse on the steering wheel pillar,it was not the old square cab though,I love reminising

Polish have you read elsewhere on the forum my 1st interaction with Jcb I'm like you the earlier machines were far better than today's machines. Having said that I don't think it would take much to make it the leader again in our eyes, it's upto Jcb themselves Daz

i agree..........when you jump on a grey cab or a project 8,you ve got some metal around you......the result is that 20 years on,they ll still hold their own on site............the current machines have all the design input, but no substance...........more metal and less plastic and i agree, they could be great again.........as i ve said before, you need weight to move weight.

I concur, I had a bl71 for 6 months it was one of the 1st ones a 54 plate. It had it's design faults like they all do. But it never once let me down an I was some days doing 100 miles in it!!!. The back arm was brilliant so easy on the sticks, wasn't keen on the front arms to much flex and auto crowd on the front bucket was crap, engine was very strong and would push all day long

Cps ,We all went armed with cameras but from the start were asked politely no photos, they let Stock take some group photos and we were all allowed to take photos of the union jack 3c but after that no photos and they did ask nicely.
