Default Crashed conversion

Can anyone give me a few pointers on adding a drawbar onto an 8 wheel tipper, I thought about pming Mog but it might make an interesting thread.

Any ideas on cost of the actual work, alteration to the VED after the change. I would be looking for a trailer which could carry an 8 tonner but don't know if this is even possible?

I have done the usual Google searches but actually come up with very little, which may mean that this is something not done much. So far I have not approached any chassis/body builders but any opinions shown here would be helpful.

Plenty of the road crews seem to do it, the planer guys in particular. But see them more with a 6 wheeler and drag, rather than an 8 wheeler. I presume for manoeuvre ability?

You see 8 wheelers around here running with low-loaders both twin and tri axle. I think they run at 44 ton gross same as an artic when on trailer, and 32 ton as a ridged.

Not sure on the legal aspect, as in how to go about it etc.

Quarry/ road surfacing outfit I worked to used 8 wheeler daf cf 410 plated for 44 ton with triaxle 24000kg drag stepframe trailer hauled everything from track machines
Planers spreaders rollers.. I'm nearly sure the 8wheelers had hub reduction.. had a few 6 wheelers to all with vbg hitches. Plus now to think of it Hbs ltd the highway barrier crowd use a lot of 8wheeler grabs and tow tandem and tri axle drags shifting machinery.

Usually specked up from the factory ie. DAF will only do draw bar spec with hub reduction axles, they will have bigger engines and usually a splitter on the gearbox too, or at least more gears

Like you know Iíve fitted draw bar gear to both my trucks but donít actually tow trailers as such, itís classed as mobile plant, ie. canít carry a cargo but can tow very long pieces of equipment

So if you had it done I think itís a bodybuilders job to cover yourself

But if it was me Iíd crack on myself as not a big fitting the hitch itís self, the air is simple enough along with the lights, but what about the ABS connection? On a tractor unit they are all there just need extending, but on a ridged where would you pick up the ABS wiring, wonít be that difficult but a bit of a head scratcher all the same
